Toning Abdominal Muscles
Here are some of the more popular myths about toning abdominal muscles and the truths behind them.
Myth 1: The toning in your abs comes when you do ab exercises
This is the worst myth that most people believe. The truth is that your abs are already there. What is going to get rid of the fat that covers those muscles is doing cardio and eating healthier.
Myth 2: You can tone abs in just 8 minutes per day
If this were possible, don’t you think that everyone be walking around with slim stomachs and looking like they should be the cover model of some hot magazine? You have to work hard to get that fat off your stomach. That isn’t going to happen in 8 minutes a day.
Myth 3: Specific Removal of Fat is Possible
This would be like you can wave a magic wand and get rid of that fat on the side of your stomach. You can’t remove one specific part of fat. What you can do however is to reduce the fat in your body overall, and your body gets to pick and choose where that fat comes from. So what you can do to get rid of that fat is eat less food and do some more cardio.
Myth 4: You must spend money to get abs
The people who sell those expensive machines would like you to believe this myth. But the truth is that you don’t have to spend any money to get the slim stomach you want. Some of the favorite examples of these wallet emptiers are:
-
Fat suits, which are soemthign that you put on and make you sweat off the pounds. Are you serious? Is that before or after you pass out from the heat?
-
Belt-vibrators from the fifties, where a woman would shimmy off their tush and get their hair done at the same time. Right. The things that they believed back then, huh?
-
Electric belts, which claim to let you watch television, relax, anything you want to do while you are wearing this belt and before long you have your very own six pack.
Myth 5 – You have to do special exercises to tone your lower abs
There aren’t any specific exercises that you have to do to tone the lower abdominals. The only thing that you have to do is to get the fat off that specific area and you’re going to see those muscles. Don’t forget what we learned in the third myth. You can’t spot remove fat.
Myth 6 – You have to do hours in the gym to tone your muscles
If you believe this myth and you are spending an hour or more in the gym, stop it! You are wasting your precious time. You should do some cycling or jogging or something else instead of working your abs to death. The cardio that you will get from jogging and cycling is going to help you get that fat off of your abs more than those other exercises.
Another favorite myth that people believe or they want to believe is that they can eat just about anything they want because they are exercising. But that doesn’t work. In order to get the best results, you have to keep eating the right foods. Otherwise you are going to find that you are putting more fat on your body and it will take you forever to get the fat off if you keep packing it on.
Think of it this way. You have a scale and you take the meat off of the scale but at the same time that you are taking it off you are putting more meat on. As long as you keep putting that meat on, you are not going to have the scale be empty, right?
Well, that is what will happen if you keep eating the wrong food while you are exercising.
So in other words, when you are exercising your abs doing cardio and working out on the machines, your fitness doesn’t stop there. You need to make sure that you are eating the right kinds of foods so that your body has what it needs to function right. You need to make sure that you are exercising the right way and not buying into the lies that people tell about what exercise machines can do. Machines will help you to lose weight, but you have to do work as well. They aren’t going to do it on their own.
Do you want to have great looking abs? Do you want to have that stomach that you always wanted to have but never could achieve? Chances are that you were believing one of the myths that are listed above and that is how you got turned around. Now that you know the truth about those myths, you can start working on going with where the truth lies and working on them.
Working on your abs is something that you have to do for yourself. No one is going to do it for you. There’s no secret formula. No magic wand. Just hard work and good food, then you will get what you want in the mirror.
